Ekaterina Maximova handing me first prize at the International Ballet Competition in Rome
She was always my idol. When l was at the Bolshoi Ballet school people told me that I looked like her and that would make me the happiest person in the world. I remember coming back after long day at school and watching videos with her as Kitri, Anuta, Aurore… it was so inspiring.

Absolutely lovely photo. Your enthusiasm is so evident, Maria. My condolences to Maximova's family, students, colleagues, friends.
Beautiful photo! I am so saddened by her death. Although I've never met her, I loved watching her dance on TV.
She was and is an inspiration. Ekaterina Maximova and Vladimir Vasiliev were the ones who got me really hooked on Russian ballet. Only last October the Bolshoi celebrated the 50th anniversary of their unique artistic creativity. There is some consolation to know that she is with us all forever in our memories of her incomparable artistry and unique talent, which is the greatest gift of a performer and which will never die.
Maximova was my first Giselle. I am so sad to hear that she is gone. So it was from Ulanova to Maximova and now from Maximova to you — a tradition — and one that is important to preserve.
I remember seeing the Bolshoi in Baltimore and Chicago growing up… it was when Nureyev (Spelling?) was still with them.
Aloha Maria, Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures of you dancing!
